Here at Kindara, our goal is to give our users the tools they need to chart their individual fertility journey! We recognized that there were some common aspects of the fertility journey that were not well represented, which is why we added the Sex icons!
Insemination: Often, the journey to conception involves medical intervention. The Insemination icon was added to ensure the Kindara App was more inclusive and representative of the different paths to conception.
Withdrawal*: The Withdrawal or "pulling out" method is when semen is kept away from the vagina by ejaculation outside of the vagina. Typically withdrawal is used to prevent pregnancy but it’s important to know that the effectiveness of withdrawal is very unforgiving of incorrect use and does not protect against STDs. For more information about this method, check out the Our Withdrawal Blog.
*Providing an icon for withdrawal does not indicate Kindara endorses or promotes the use of withdrawal as a form of contraception. However, we recognize that withdrawal is a commonly used method by those who practice FABMs (Fertility Awareness-Based Methods).
Protected Sex: The heart with the shield in front represents protected sex. This refers to sex with barrier methods of contraception including the use of a condom, spermicide, sponge, diaphragm, or a cervical cap. It’s up to you to know the effective rates of different barrier methods you use. Kindara is here to help you record them as part of your cycle tracking. Find more information on these methods here.
Unprotected Sex: A filled-in heart represents unprotected sex. Unprotected sex is when there is sexual activity without the use of any form of barrier method.
